Steps

From the home screen, tap on the Notes icon

Create a new note by tapping on the icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen

The default setting in the Notes application brings up the keyboard so that you can type a note.

To change the keyboard setting, tap on the "+" icon

It is on the right side of the screen, just above the keypad. Several small icons will appear above the keypad. From the far left to right, you can create a checklist, type letters, snap a photo, or draw a picture.

This is the second icon from the right side.

Tapping on the drawing icon will bring up the drawing function within the Notes application

In the bottom-right corner of the screen, you can choose a color by pressing the filled in circle

You can swipe to left or right to choose from three different color panels

Each offers eight colors. There are two color panels. If you scroll to the far right, you will see a grayscale panel as well.

Tap on a color to select it

Now, let's select green. To the left of the color picker, you will see three different drawing utensils: a pen, a marker, and a pencil.

You can draw with your finger

Note that the tool is pressure sensitive; so, if you press down harder, a thicker line will be created.

Tap on the eraser next to the color-picker icon

Tap and drag across the screen to begin erasing

Tap firmer to erase a larger area at one time

You can tap and drag the screen to place the ruler

This will allow you to draw or erase a straight line.

To draw a straight line, drag the ruler to the place where you want to draw

Rotate the ruler by placing two fingers on each end of the tool and rotating the ruler on the screen

As you are rotating, you will see the number of degrees on the screen inside of the ruler. Let's create a straight line at a 45-degree angle.

After you've placed your ruler, tap on a drawing instrument

Let's tap on the pencil.

Tap and drag your finger along the ruler to draw a straight line

When you've finished, drag the ruler to move it

You will be able to see that a straight line will have been created. You can use the ruler to erase everything outside the boundaries of the ruler.

Place the ruler over a section of the drawing

You can tap and drag the finger to erase everything with the eraser

Whatever is underneath the ruler will be kept.

You can see that the segment underneath the ruler was not erased.
